A Glass Supply Trip!

Yes, even we have to make trips to get supplies.   We have no local "wholesalers" for our glass and we do like to pick out our colors ourselves.
But since we live in one of the most beautiful places on earth, even a trip to our wholesaler in Greer, S.C. can be an adventure.

We left out early on Friday morning and headed across the mountains.   Yes, we could have taken interstate 40 but why not enjoy the day.   Our path takes us south on US 441 across the Smoky Mountains and then just before Cherokee, N.C. we turn up the Blue Ridge Parkway.   If you have never taken the time to travel this road that has been voted one of the most scenic in the country, should are really missing a treat.
We head north on the Parkway for several miles but to cut off a little time, we exit onto Hwy 276  near Brevard, N.C. and head south.   We are welcomed by a real surprise, Looking Glass Falls.

Easily accessible, Looking Glass Falls is just off to the side of Hwy 276.   We take a few moments to drink in their beauty but since we are burning daylight already, we push on to Greer.

After choosing our glass, we hit the road back around 4:30 that afternoon.   We decide to utilize a little more of the interstate but still cannot resist the pull of the Parkway.  We go north to Asheville and then get back on the Parkway heading back toward Cherokee.

As we head south we run through a few rain showers but just as we get to one of my favorite stops along this road, Water Rock Knob, the rains abate and we are treated to a truly breath taking vista.

The elevation at this point is around 5200 feet and the view is looking south back towards the Great Smoky Mountains.

The sun is peeking though the clouds and the mist is rising out of the valleys.
We talk to some other people who have stopped to soak in the beauty of this late afternoon, but know that we still have miles to go, we press on toward home.

As we continue south on the Parkway, we encounter a few more rain showers before we get to Cherokee and Hwy 441 which will take us back across the mountains.
For those of you who get to come here, remember that these old mountains do create their own weather and it can get cool and cloudy very quickly but it can break up just as rapidly and you will truly be blessed with one of the most beautiful sites in the Smokies.............a sunset from Morton's Overlook.

Morton's Overlook is a little pull-off from Hwy 441 on the Gatlinburg side of the mountains..... not too far from the Newfound Gap parking area.   Yes, this is understandably one of the most popular picture taking spots along the road.   We love to take a picnic dinner and enjoy the changing vista.  You never know exactly what you will see along the road.   This evening we were blessed with what you see in the photo above.

So, even a chore such as going for supplies can really be a blessing if you just take the time to look around and be grateful for God's gifts!
